A sepia photograph shows two rugby teams in a match. A player in black (New Zealand) is running with the ball toward the photographer’s end of the field. Players run behind him and on either side.
This photo was published in 1913 in volume 63 of Outing, a series of publications on topics surrounding sports, adventure, and traveling. The teams in the image are Stanford (white) and New Zealand (black), who won the match. At the time of this game in 1907, the official rules for rugby football had been established only 36 years prior, in 1871.
